MAIA ADELIA WINS
Global Girl Media UK graduate (2019) Maia Adelia has been awarded the BAFTA Scholarship to support her continuing documentary filmmaking studies at the prestigious National Film and Television School. Since attending the GGM UK Summer Academy, Maia has been working as an Assistant Producer in TV. Her credits include: The Good Fight Club (Sky Documentaries), Changemakers (Paramount+) and Danny Dyer: 21st Century Man (Channel 4). Maia is the founder of Next Gen Docs, a resource for emerging documentary filmmakers.

She reports on how her mother, an “essential worker” at a hospital for NHS, has to maintain distance from them to keep her grandmother safe. A moving story about three generations of Tamil women learning from each other and the pandemic.

Aryan, a 15-year old refugee from Afghanistan, tries to video her living center in Berlin but is not allowed to show the crowded conditions, with many refugees coming and going, and the difficulty of maintaining social distance. When her family is moved to a remote location in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown, she wonders what her future holds.
