Global Girl Media Greece at the Athens WOW Women’s Festival!
For the second year in a row, GGM Greece is participating in the Athens WOW Women’s Festival, 2024 held at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center. GGM Greece produced four videos of women’s stories that highlight dedication, courage and resilience. Four true stories that focus on a different background each time: a female member of the Greek Muslim Roma community of Thrace, a mother of an LGBTI+ child, a refugee and survivor of gender-based violence, and a filmmaker empowering young female activists through digital media education. The aim is through these stories is to strengthen the voices of women from all walks of life, offering the public the opportunity to hear first-hand people they would not meet in their everyday lives talking about sensitive issues, about paths of personal development that inspire, for the transformative power of solidarity. https://www.snfcc.org/WOWStories

OUR LAND, OUR STORIES
OUR LAND, OUR STORIES is our media training and environmental advocacy project that brought together Global Girl reporters from South Africa, Greece and Los Angeles for two weeks in April, 20205 to share resources, build inspiration and collaborate on a multi-media reporting project about climate change and its impact on women and girls. Sponsored in-part by SONY CREATE ACTION and the AFRICA EUROPE FOUNDATION,
The overall objective was to utilize media and storytelling to raise awareness about the intersection between gender-based violence and climate change. The program was designed to provide the necessary information, training and resources for young women to position themselves as advocates and leaders in the fight for climate mitigation and the eradication of GBV. FEATURING AMIE WILLIAMS, SHAFI, KARIME, and ADELE QIAS – Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tspiras is under pressure to hold snap elections after his Syriza party lost big in recent Parliamentary elections. Although Tspiras’s term ends in October, he is hoping snap elections will salvage some political power before then. Among the issues at stake is the fate of refugees who have become political scapegoats in European nations like Greece.

Within the framework of women and youth empowerment through digital media, Salma TAKKY- Global Girl from Morocco – has been part of the American Middle Eastern Network for Dialogue at Stanford 2017 (AMENDS).The American Middle Eastern Network for Dialogue at Stanford (AMENDS) is a collaborative student-led initiative interested in the promotion of understanding and respect around the Middle East, and the support of a generation of leaders who are working to ignite concrete social and economic development in the MENA region.
From June 19-24 2017, Salma Takky attended a series of workshops at Oxford university, followed by a TED-style talk where she described the journey of Global Girl Media & Network. Salma closely introduced the different activities and programs that enable her and all the Moroccan women and youth to take a new and favored attitude within the Moroccan culture.
