GlobalGirl Mandisa Madikane sits on PEPFAR panel “Turning the Tide for Women and Girls” at the 2012 International AIDS Conference in Washington, DC.
Other panelists included: UN Mabassador Melanne Verveer; Dr. Tom Friedan head of the CDC; Dr. Rajiv Shah–Administrator of USAID; and Zimbawe Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Thokozani Khupe.
Madikane’s documentary “Mandisa’s story” screened at the start of the panel, and panelists discussed girls vulnerability to HIV and how citizen journalism from those infected with HIV can change the perceptions of HIV and the way it’s portrayed in mainstream media.
