GGM OAKLAND Poetry: Who Do You Feel Love For?

in Okland / Arts & Culture

By Lali Wilde

my painted pink toes swayed

beneath me, hanging from

the branch of a cherry tree

i’m contemplating the value of

vanity– where is the line

between self absorbed and self-loving?

i watched a bluebird groom itself

in the reflection of an urban city

window. he ruffled his black

striped wings and

opened and closed his beak,

modeling for himself, his

reflection a judge for enjoyment.

the sight was amusing, though

it made me wonder whether

the bird was observing

to impress or to indulge?

is passion no longer valid if

there is nothing in it beyond

feeding yourself?
